Massachusetts Leaders Denounce Bigotry Against the Puerto Rican Community

More than seventy Massachusetts leaders from across a variety of fields including civil rights, philanthropy, faith, and immigration co-signed the below statement denouncing recent racist attacks against the Puerto Rican community and Latino community at large.

Statement in Solidarity with the Puerto Rican Community

From one generation to the next, there are those who have sought to build themselves up by diminishing others. Whether by bigotry-infused demagoguery or hate masquerading as comedy, the intended result is to turn communities against one another. Comedian and speaker Tony Hinchcliffe displayed these hateful behaviors when he sought to denigrate the Puerto Rican community last weekend.

We condemn in the strongest possible terms Tony Hinchcliffe's vile dehumanizing remarks. Our shared moral values compel us to speak out in the face of language such as this that corrodes our public discourse. We stand in solidarity with Amplify LatinX, the Latino community, and most particularly the Puerto Rican community, all who have done so much to enrich our country. America’s diversity and pluralism are at the core of our strength, and vitriol like that displayed by Tony Hinchcliffe have no place in a multicultural society that values decency and inclusion.
